Steel screens are a good choice for saving your pot from falling through the bowl and also help keep your bongs and or pipe cleaner. They are not as good as glass screens but still effective and financially feasible because they usually come in packs from 5 and up. The one draw back is steel screens get dirty and discolored fast and if you are like me i like my equipment looking all shiny and new to satisfy my stoner brain. They can be priced from 1 dollar for 5 so it may seem that they are worth the money but over a lifetime it adds up to hundreds of dollars, but this in it self does not mean you shouldn't get them, because for pipes rather then bongs steel screens work better as where in bongs glass is the way to go. They are many different kinds of screens for your bongs and pipes so how do you make the right choice? The answer is you don't, The only right choice is what you prefer, Style ,look, and feel. Person's who care about looks and smoking pleasure will avoid steel pot screens all together and head straight for glass and I agree with them.

Glass screens for bongs and pipes are the best of the best, they are easy to clean and do there job effectively plus they look awesome at the same time. Glass weed screens will last longer then you will unless you break them that is and when they get dirty full of weed ash and resin using a bong cleaner and some tissue will make them look brand new like the day you bought them. They are a worth while investment because they save you weed from falling through. They come in many sizes and shapes depending on the manufacturer and around 1 dollar each they are a better alternative to metal or stone screens since these will last forever. Almost every headshop will have them or should have them just pick the one you like drop it into your bowl and use. When they get dirty from weed and resin just clean them off and put the glass weed screen back in the bowl and once again smoke away.
Glass weed screens are better then metal ones as metal ones get deformed, discolored and frayed after a couple of uses. In the end glass screens will save you money on multiple fronts and in addition they look pretty cool as well. Often many smokers will use various kinds of metal and glass screens to save weed but did you know it also protects your lungs and keeps your bongs and pipes cleaner. A screen is much different then say a filter for cigarettes, those also protect your lungs just in a different way. Have you ever found yourself smoking a pipe only to get hot embers streaming down into your lungs? never mind the "you got something in your tooth" problem when this happens. Obviously sending hot burning embers down into your lungs is not good and most likely end up in scaring over a long period of time, but this can be avoided by using a weed screen for your bowl. Depending on whether your smoking out of a waterpipe/regular pipe can and will effect the kind of screen you need.Basically the same princible applies for cleaning your bong and pipe cleaner since there won't be chucks of weed / cannabis / marijuana "what ever you wanna call it" floating around building on on the sides. The best reason for using weed screens is well to SAVE WEED! you will not be losing tons of weed anymore. Over a long period of time say years, think of how much will be lost to the depths of resin water only to be flushed... Ahhhh the good ol toilet
If you are using a plastic/acrylic bong you will want to use a weed screen because these types of bongs are harder to clean even with bong and pipe cleaners because micro abrasion eats away over time at the plastic and the chunky resin will actually sink into the plastic bong rather then just stay on the outer surface.
